Corps Cadet Sunday Added: 11/11/2006
Those who came to the Morning Worship Service on Sunday, October 29, 2006, were blessed by the ministry of our Corps Cadet Brigade.
Under the leadership and direction of their Corps Cadet Counselor, Magda Barth, the Corps Cadets led our Worship Service. Our Current Corps Cadets are: Lyanne Barth, Tejorn Davis, Heather LaSalle, Michael LaSalle, and Gian Villegas. Corps Cadets pledge to be committed to the five year program of Bible lessons, leadership training, and service. The purpose of the Corps Cadet program is to develop Biblically sound and trained local leadership for the future of the Army.
The most exciting and different part of the morning worship meeting conducted by the Corps Cadets, were the four Worship Stations, each one led by a different Corps Cadet. The stations gave worshippers an opportunity to learn through hands-on activities. The four stations - Adoration , Confession, Supplication, and Transformatio Station, featured various components of exploration - molding clay, ribbons, balloons, and stones!
We look forward to using the prayer room the Corps Cadets have been working on in order to participate in the 24/7 prayer initiative of our Territorial Headquarters. We look forward to taking on days where we will have our prayer room operating 24 hours a day for a few days. We will need everyone to 'sign on' for hours!
Friendly Visiting Added: 11/11/2006
Each year, especially during the holiday, The Salvation Army visits hundreds of individuals who are hospitalized or living in assisted living facilities in the Southern Dutchess area.
The visits include the singing of Christmas Carols, sharing uplifting messages of hope from God's Word, a smile, a hug, and a gift.
Those gifts dropped in the Red Kettle help to pay for the gifts and visits. You are welcome to join us as a friendly visitor by calling 845-831-1253 to ask for times and locations of our visits.

Youth Programs Christmas Party Added: 11/11/2006
What a great time we had on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at our Youth Program Christmas Party.
Besides our special guest Captain Suzanne Hickman from our Territorial Youth Department in Nyack, New York, we were treateed by a visit from K-104 Morning Show host, Chris Marino. He brought "The Grinch" with him to say hello to all the children and young people (and parents).
We had a wonderful crowd of over 120 people for our party. The food was fantastic, and the games were a blast (reindeer ears, ice cube dunk, races, and more!). We have plenty of memories to last until 2007's Christmas Party!

Women Added: 11/11/2006
Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 11:30 AM, the Women's Ministry members, and Corps employees enjoyed a great time of food and fellowship at Charlie Brown's Restaurant.
What a great time of games we enjoyed. No one will forget Tina and Briant, Magda and Rebecca 'wrapping', or Shirley Gill with the SPOONS! What a lot of laughs we enjoyed.
Bringing it to a wonderful close was Major Carolynne Chung, who shared God's Word with us. It was great to get to know Major Chung, and we look forward to many more times in fellowship with her here in the Greater New York Division.
Christmas Musical Added: 11/11/2006
“A Miracle on Main Street” Beacon, NY Corps Christmas Musical December 24, 2007
By Raymond Livingston
On Christmas Eve I had opportunity to enjoy a little taste of Broadway as the beacon Corps Drama Team presented the Musical, “A Miracle on Main Street”. The Beacon Corps young people under the leadership of Major Verna LaSalle worked for several months to bring the production alive. We were reminded of the true meaning of Christmas through song, dance and drama.
The young people played a Youth Choir who were planning great Christmas Pageant to be held in the Town Square. Everything was going well until the Town Mayor (Michael) appeared and announced that the pageant would not be held this year due to traffic concerns in the Town Square. The children were obviously disappointed at this announcement and decided to go door-to-door as Christmas Carolers and to get the support of the neighbors in the community. While Caroling the met a host of interesting characters including a rich man and his wife reminiscent of the Millionaire and his wife ala Gilligan’s Island (Gian & Lyanne), they also met a couple from the 60’s (Nicole & Gian) and finally the friendly baker who turns out to be the Mayor’s Daughter (Heather LaSalle). After a change of heart and gentle coaxing from his Daughter, the Mayor decides the pageant can be put on in the Town Square.
What a wonderful way to spend my Christmas Eve. All of the children did a wonderful job. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and it served as a wonderful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.
RED KETTLE EFFORT Added: 11/11/2006
The Salvatoin Army will be kicking off it's 2006 Christmas Kettle effort in Dutchess County with a wonderful luncheon at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel at noon on Friday, November 11, 2006.
We are always looking for groups or individuals to help us raise the needed funds to assist the thousands of people we help all during the year. Your time at our kettle ‘ringing the bell’ will go a long way to helping providing a hot meal for someone in our soup kitchen, groceries for a family who is struggling due to lost work wages from an illness, provide a bed for a child just returned to their family, or clothing for a family who is recovering from a tragedy like a fire or flood. We help people in need all year long, and we need your help to raise those much needed funds to keep our doors open to those in need. Won’t you consider ‘adopting a kettle’ for a day (8 hours) or a few days! Round up friends to take one-hour shifts, and feel the joy of helping others this Christmas! Make it a group event, and sing carols to bring cheer to those out shopping!
ANGEL TREES Added: 11/11/2006
The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program in the Beacon Corps started in 2000, so that all children may experience the magic of Christmas. Each year, the Angel Tree Program continues to grow and expand its efforts throughout the Southern Dutchess area.
We are thankful for the businesses that have graciously set-up trees for The Salvation Army to place “Angel Tags”. Angel tags represent a child from a family that has requested holiday assistance through The Salvation Army, and has been screened and approved for eligibility through our Social Services worker.
ANGEL TREES in 2005 are located at the following places: BJ’s Wholesale Club 1357 Rte. 9, Wappingers Falls, NY (845) 297-7800
Denny's Restaurant 6 Schuyler Blvd. Fishkill, NY 12524 845-896-5050
Wachovia Bank 1098 Main Street, Fiskill, NY (845) 297-4656
Wachovia Bank 1863 South Road, Wappingers, NY (845) 297-4657
M & T Bank 200 Main Street, Beacon (845) 838-1611
Citizen's Bank 364 Main Street; Beacon (845) 831-8100
HOW YOU CAN HELP. Select and 'Angel' (you may choose more than one) for whom you wish to 'shop'!
Angel tags note the gender and age of each 'angel'. Items your recipient needs are listed on the Tag. You may purchase one, two, or all of the items listed on the Tag. You may substitute any age-appropriate gifts, if you choose, but please realize that the toys listed are those that the child has requested for Christmas and toys that the child likes.
PLEASE DO NOT WRAP GIFTS. Parents want to see what has been purchased for their children so that it is not a ‘surprise’ to them. You can include gift wrap for the parents to wrap the gifts!
GIFTS MUST BE NEW. Please, no ‘used’ gifts through the angel tree program. Also, please no guns/weapons.
All gifts are given to the recipient's parent/guardian anonymously.
Bring gifts purchased for your angel/recipient back to the designated drop-off location (where you picked up the 'angel' Tag). If you can’t remember, you can drop them off at The Salvation Army (372 Main Street; Beacon, New York)
PLEASE KNOW HOW MUCH YOUR GIFT IS APPRECIATED! You will bring smiles to someone's face this holiday who would not otherwise be smiling
